After graduation, two of my friends moved out to California, and I hadn't seen them for AGES. So we've always talked about going to an anime convention together. Fanime was close to SF, so I said why not? So I registered, booked a hotel, and reserved plane tickets. Literally 3 days before the con started, one of my friends gets on Facebook chat and says to me, "Uhh, so I can't make it to Fanime." And apparently my other friend forgot all about it. I was pretty upset.
This is going to sound really pitiful, but I started dreading going to Fanime. The last time I went to a convention, my friend kept me company. But this time, I was flying halfway across the country to go to a convention where I didn't know anyone. I was still working off my shyness then, so I was afraid no one was going to talk to me, and I wouldn't make any friends at all. Also, my hotel was kinda in the ghetto (bought pepperspray, lol). So yeah, pre-con jitters, not fun.
-Thursday Night
Flight was kinda delayed so I got into San Jose at like 9 pm. Got to my hotel realized the bed was hard!! That's what she said too. Anyways. I started ironing out my costume, but the iron sucked and wound up dripping water everywhere. Made plans to see my friends in SF on Sunday and then make it back in time for the Devil May Cry gathering.
-Friday, Day 1
I got up early, dressed, and made my way to the convention center. I was surprised there weren't very many people out that early. When I walked into the lobby, I felt as if I was just invited to a Halloween party but no one was in costume except for me. Where were the cosplayers?!! Reuben Langdon's panel wasn't until 6, so I just spent most of my time wandering around. Got roped into volunteering, that was surprisingly enjoyable. I know some cosplayers don't carry a camera around, so I didn't for awhile, but was like, screw this! I want to take pictures too!! So I got my camera and ran around asking for pictures. Turns out, Reuben Langdon's panel got cancelled because he wasn't there yet. He makes me feel like such an underachiever/loser. Here I was at a convention when I should be studying while he's working his butt off with the next awesome videogame. But anyways. So I still had jetlag and went to bed at 9.
-Saturday, Day 2
The morning was spent volunteering at registration. It was fun seeing all the cosplays and stuff. I found out Reuben's panel was at 10:30 ish, so I headed over there.
EPIC STORY OF EPICNESS! Well...kinda.
I was waiting outside of the panel room, leaning against the rail watching the cosplayers outside when I notice someone had taken a place next to me on my left. I have a bad habit of looking up at people when this happens, so I did, and it was Reuben!! My heart literally started pounding, I was all like, "Holy crap, it's really him!! Quick, find something to distract myself with!!" So I was taking random pictures of inanimate objects and texting my friends. He was texting too, lol.
After a while, Mr. Langdon decides to use the rail as a way to stretch out his legs. I had to stifle a laugh. It was adorable/funny/very practical all at the same time. In addition, it also reminded me about how sore I was from running around (my shoes were also a size too small, so they were killing my feet). All of a sudden, I had the urge to stretch too, but how weird would that look? And I'm sure Reuben would have been like, "WTH" Why is this weird girl imitating me?" My biggest regret was WHY DID I NOT SAY, "HI MY LANGDON, MY NAME IS MICHELLE, IT'S AN HONOR TO FINALLY MEET YOU." Or something or other. I think I was to afraid of saying something that would creep him out or something....
Damn, I type too much, more later!
